We have an endocannabinoid system, and in our skin are CB1 and CB2 nerve receptors, which the cannabiniods, in the cannabis plant attach to. They send a signal to the brain, to quiet the pain.

These receptors can either be activated by the body's naturally occuring endocannabinoids or by cannabis compounds such as THC and CBD
